Grown in Devon, Made in Devon - Keeping Fibre miles low!Woolly Waste packaging from The Woolly Shepherd is the really green answer to food packaging. This unique insulation material is produced using 100% wool from Devon sheep – an innovative use of a truly sustainable resource because wool is renewable – it grows back each year and has to be sheared. There are 22 million sheep in the UK so there is plenty of wool. We use wool that is not suitable for knitwear or quality goods by nature of it coming from breeds of sheep with tougher wool, making it highly suited to insulation. We also use local recycled and waste wool. Our wool is bought from West Country farmers, via the British Wool Marketing Board. It is washed at Buckfast in Devon in water from the river Dart, then carded and needle felted. No chemicals or additives are used as it is naturally resistant to fire and mould and being contained in an 80% recycled plastic wrapping is not affected by moths. As with other insulation materials, ice sheets are placed within the box to maintain cool temperatures. |

Wool fibres have many overlapping scales which make them extremely flexible and create a memory-effect. After significant compression, wool will return to its original shape. |
