Woolly Waste - Felt and Wool Processing Facilities For Hire

...and just sheer pleasure can now be bought from Woolly Waste, a business dedicated to making ethical fairly traded local products from waste wool and other waste fibre. This unique facility is in a modern unit, with solar heated water, on an old airfield in the heart of the Blackdown Hills.
Wool straight from the sheep, alpaca or angora goat can be washed, carded, and felted into large sheets of felt suitable for a range of uses… the only limit is your imagination.
Felt sheets can be joined to make long rolls either plain or patterned to make for example yurt linings, rugs, and large quilt stuffing.
This facility is the only one of its kind in the southwest and visitors are most welcome!

Whether you keep sheep or other fibre producing animals or are just fascinated by the idea of making your own felt, but without the effort required to make it by hand, we can provide full free training for those wishing to hire the facilities to process their own wool or make felt from some of ours.Facilities exist to scour (wash) fleeces, put them through our machines for fluffing up the clean fleece and getting it ready to felt on our large wet felt table (4’ x 3’) or spun at Coldharbour Mill. Fleeces can also be dyed by arrangement.
Open Studio Saturdays will be held once a month for those wishing to book a session in the washer or on the felting table to wash up to 3 fleeces or make small quantities of felt. Whole day bookings during the week will be available throughout the year for those wanting to process larger quantities. Sheets of plain & coloured felt, made from quality waste and recycled wools, carded wool for hand spinning and yarns from local sheep available to purchase.

Washed £10per kg
Washed, picked & carded £15 per kg
Washed, picked, carded & felted £20per kg
Felting only (of ready prepared wool) £10 per kg
If you come and do it….
Washing—£80 per day inclusive (you can wash a lot of wool in a day…a return in excess of 8kg)
Picking & carding £50 per day including help & supervision
Felting table £50 per day….thats a lot of felt!
